Heartburn affects thousands of people every day in America. Is caused by the body's reaction to various types of food and activities. Heartburn is caused when digestive acid stomachs rises from the stomach and throat. This causes a strong burning sensation in my throat like acid digests part of the Gorge leaving sores in her wake. The most common foods that are known as problem foods include fatty foods, high salt foods and spicy foods. These often cause gastrointestinal problems and can cause heartburn. Heartburn can also be caused by obesity. Access fat that can encircle the stomach of an overweight individual may be enough to push the acid out of the stomach and throat while eating or after eating. This can be shaken by sudden or intense activity. For these causes of heartburn, finding how to get rid of heartburn could be as easy as avoiding certain foods or lose weight.

While finding that the cause is very good, occasional heartburn just happens without a primary reason. For these cases, over the counter medications like Tums may make it easier for an individual to relieve pain. There are over the counter medications that can prevent heartburn, though treating the cause is better than cure the symptom.

No matter how you run the heartburn, the effects can be devastating. Heartburn is caused by stomach acid. If you experience frequent heartburn, the lining of the throat can become damaged and scarred. Scarred tissue does not function as well as normal tissue and swallowing or speaking may be compromised. It is always important to speak with a healthcare professional before treating frequent heartburn as there may be a medical condition causing the symptoms.
